5. an old nightdress to wear in labour

10. watch with a second hand to time contractions
11. camera and film/tape
12. relaxation materials: books, magazines, games, music
13. pictures of loved ones
14. tense pain relief machine
15. toiletries

For birth partner:
1. change of clothes
2. snacks

After birth:
1. going-home outfit
2. breastfeeding bras
3. breastpads
4. sanitary towels
5. nightgown
6. toiletries
7. address book, plus lots of change or a prepaid phone card for all the calls you may want to make . You may find you cannot use your mobile phone in the hospital building.

For baby:
1. infant car seat
2. one outfit for trip home
3. baby blanket (preferably heavy when the weather is chilly)
4. nappies
5. one pair of socks or booties
6. hat
7. jacket/snowsuit for winter
